Matthew
James Rooney

was born on May 12, 1992, in Grand Forks, N.D. He spent his days full of laughter, sunshine and play with his brother and several school children who couldn’t meet his high memory standards. These activities ranged from watching Spielberg and Lucas films, banging his head on walls and becoming so excited that Bugs Bunny was on, he belly-flopped off the swings, foresaw death and divided his will amongst his toys.

After several military-related relocations to New Mexico and Germany, he, begrudgingly, settled in Cheyenne, Wyo.

There he was forced to avoid the harsh-looking weather and harsher-looking residents by indulging in the many movies his brother would discover and watch every night before bed. He soon learned the majesty of films and how they can be used to evoke the widest range of emotions and provide for the fondest and embedded of memories.

He recalled his scariest memories involving his brother putting on a horror film at night, realizing his fear of them, and then leaving the room for “water.” He remembered watching in horror alone as little girls were sucked into TVs and pets rose from cemeteries. Hours would go by before Rooney would discover his brother asleep on the couch in the living room watching “Friends.”

Rooney has found this passion for film more and more absorbing, stimulating and invigorating as he progressed in his years. Delving into literature of past films and films themselves as often as he can, he hopes to further his knowledge, palate and continue to irritate those around him for years to come.
