Free event to celebrate female veterans

Promoting Our Women Warriors of Wyoming (POWWOW) will return to the Casper Events Center in mid-May to inspire female veterans and strengthen relationships.

The theme will be “Grow where you are planted,” and breakout sessions and group speakers will be part of the daylong event on Saturday, May 16. Doors open at 8 a.m. Sessions such as scrapbooking, vision boards, tea ceremonies and others will be showcased.

The keynote speaker is writer Chonda Pierce, an in-demand standup comic, television hostess and author. She has written eight books with most recent being “Laughing in the dark” and has ranked among Pollstar's top-selling live performers. Her 10th comedy DVD, "I’m kind of a big deal," released September 2011 highlighted her USO tour to Afghanistan. She's a frequent guest on the famed Grand Ole Opry and has served as host of the Inspirational Country Music Awards and Christian Music Hall of Fame Awards as well as co-hosting the GMA Dove awards in 2012. She received five daytime Emmy nominations for her work co-hosting "Aspiring Women," a talk show on the Total Living Network, and her first television special “This ain't Prettyville!” appeared on Country Music Television nationwide. Pierce got her first break working at a theme park in Nashville where she performed as Grand Ole Opry star Minnie Pearl. “
