College 'pops' up concert
LCCC vocal, instrumental performs more popular, hit music
Community College’s vocal and instrumental ensembles will perform a Spring “Pops” Concert at 7 p.m. May 3 at the Cheyenne Civic Center.
The concert will venture away from the stricter, more serious music featured in the Concert of World Music earlier this year in favor of more fun, more popular hit music, LCCC instructor Ed Novotny said.
Music from artists such as Elvis and Kansas as well as a soundtrack medley that Novotny and his students are very excited to perform will be featured. The medley will include music from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” soundtrack along with music from the soundtracks of other action and adventure movies.
Novotny, who teaches the Celtic ensemble, said the music department wanted to venture into different styles for the concert and promote having fun with the music. While he didn’t want to give too much away, he said those who attend should expect to hear music they’ll recognize, including songs from popular soundtracks and one or two hits from the Top 40.
Novotny said it’s important to him that the musicians, as part of the community college, reach out to and perform for the community, not just the college. He said they want to remind the community that LCCC has more to offer than just sports.
The Spring “Pops” Concert is free and open to the public.
