Event to connect female comrades

The collaborative partnership that is P.O.W.W.O.W. (Promoting Our Women Warriors of Wyoming) was created as “a new outreach event to improve the lives of female veterans by connecting them with resources and fellow servicewomen,” said Colleen Butler, Sheridan Women’s Veterans Program manager.

P.O.W.W.O.W, which is free to all female veterans in Wyoming at the Casper Events Center, will be held Saturday, May 17. Casper was chosen because it is centrally located and strategically positioned between the two VA facilities in Cheyenne and Sheridan.

P.O.W.W.O.W. numbers in “2013 saw an increase to 125 registrants (by 30 percent) although only 104 attended. With 30 days to go, 2014 registration is at 101. We anticipate at least 110, another 6 percent increase, which indicates steady enrollment of women warriors. The vision for the event is to gather all female veterans in the state of Wyoming for a day of networking, information, motivation and inspiration,” Butler explained.

Picture this, said Brandy Marshall, Cheyenne Women’s Program manager, “a 300-mile, in-state road trip, no driving, and no cost, but with plenty of fun and sisterhood, new attitudes and gratitude. Is that incentive enough for a fun day out?”

In conjunction with the DAV Transportation Network, a shuttle service will be provided, with several shuttle points throughout the state.

Event participants are invited to contact the DAV in Sheridan (307-675-3272) or in Cheyenne (307-778-7826 ext. 7137). DAV will transport women to Casper and back to their communities
