Former Wingspan editor to receive Gold Circle award

A former Wingspan editor at Laramie County Community College has taken second place in the nation for a video news package.

Kasey M. Orr will receive a Gold Circle award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in New York City March 19–21. More than 4,000 entries were received in the 31st annual Gold Circle contest in the yearbook and digital media categories in competition with four-year institutions.

Orr’s winning entry called “Paramedic landing zone training” told the story of students in the college’s emergency medical services program practicing landing zone and trauma scenario training complete with a helicopter landing on the LCCC soccer field. The video was posted online at Wingspan Online.

First place went to the University of Pennsylvania; second to Humber College in Toronto and honorable mentions to Baylor University and the University of Houston.

Orr works as a reporter for the Douglas Budget. Wingspan faculty advisers are Rosalind Schliske and J.L. O’Brien.

The CSPA has been operated as part of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism since 1925.
