Silva signs letter of intent to play for Texas Tech

Laramie County Community College basketball power forward Rodrigo Silva on Nov. 9 signed a letter of intent to play for Texas Tech University in the 2012–13 season.

Silva said he talked to his parents as well as head basketball coach and athletic director Jason Ficca and assistant coach Dewayne Saulsberry for counsel.

Silva said he felt Texas Tech was the right fit for him because the team has a good coach in Billy Gillispie and a good team in the Red Raiders.

Silva also said he believed he can make an impact right away next year. He also noted he enjoyed the Texas Tech campus and the weather reminded him of his home in Sao Paulo.

The Brazil native scored 423 points, gathered 307 rebounds and blocked 151 shots, third most in the National Junior College Athletic Association, in his freshmen season with the Golden Eagles last year.
