College tweaks calender for fall 2013

Laramie County Community College’s 2013-2014 academic calendar has experienced a few changes compared to this year’s calendar.

LCCC’s first day of class in the fall 2013 will be the same day as the University of Wyoming’s, Aug. 26. This is because students had complications with financial aid and the faculty has had to deal with two different schedules. Students enrolled at Albany County Campus and UW were also finishing at LCCC a week before UW and were worried they would be out of the dorms.

Starting late prompts fears about dorms

Students were wondering whether LCCC’s spring break would match with the university’s or with Laramie County School District No.1’s schedule. Students who are parents of K-12 students were wondering if college students would be on vacation at the same time. LCCC’s spring break will be closer to UW’s spring break in 2014. The break will be halfway through the semester on March 17-23.

After being eliminated for several years, academic advising planning days have returned, and registration will also change.

In fall 2013, advising and planning day will be on Tuesday, Nov. 5, with no classes in session. Students will be unable to enroll on this day either. On Nov. 12, currently enrolled students will have the first opportunity to register for the fall 2014 semester. New students will be able to enroll on Nov. 19.

Advising day returns to calender

During the spring semester, April 8 will be the planning and advising day, again with no classes and no registration. April 15 is when currently enrolled students will be able to register for summer and fall 2014. April 22 is when new students will be able to register for summer and fall.

Graduation will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014.
