Adjunct instructor looses breast cancer battle

Laramie County Community College has lost a hardworking adjunct instructor to breast cancer. Debora Lynn Retz, 58, lost her battle to cancer on Feb. 13.

A native of Cheyenne, Retz lived here her whole life. After graduating from East High School, she began a career at Mountain Towers as a certified nurse’s assistant. She earned her licensed practical nurse degree from LCCC in 1975 and was in the first registered nurse graduate program in 1979.

She moved on to obtain her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming in 1996 and her master’s degree in 2008.

For 33 years, Retz worked at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. For 13 years, she taught nursing students at LCCC and the University of Wyoming.

She is survived by her husband, John Retz, and son, Charles Retz, both of Cheyenne.

Donations may be made to the Debora Retz Scholarship for Nursing Students through the LCCC Foundation.
