LCCC music graduate dies

A Laramie County Community College graduate and music graduate has died after a battle with myeloid leukemia.

Adam Ouray Burris, 22, of Cortez, Colorado, died Jan. 30 at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, Colorado. He was born Jan. 11, 1993.

Burris attended LCCC beginning in August 2011 and graduated with his Associate of Arts in music in May 2014. He was a trombonist and vocalist, performing in the Wind Symphony, the Jazz Band, Cantorei ensemble, Collegiate Choir and Men’s ensemble.

He was diagnosed with the disease while attending LCCC, and his fellow music majors supported him by shaving their heads or putting streaks of orange in their hair.

Burris is survived by his mother, Myra; brothers, Ben, Kaleb, Tom, Damon and Joe; and sisters, Charlotte, Mariah and Corinna.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Cheyenne.

Previous services were held in Cortez, Colorado, Feb. 8 at the Montezuma Cortez High School Auditorium.

Contributions can be made to the Adam Burris Memorial Fund at First Southwest Bank of Cortez or Wells Fargo Bank.
