Community called to rise against violence Feb. 14

The global strike aimed at violence against women will come to Cheyenne. At 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, beginning at the Depot Plaza, V-day Cheyenne will gather women and those who love them to start the dance to the Capitol and demand an end to violence against women.

After spending some time listening to speakers rally for violence against women, the group will reconvene at Laramie County Community college for another demonstration.

However, this event isn’t just for the people of Cheyenne. Women, men and children will be joining together on this day all over the world in an effort to stop violence against women. V-Day Cheyenne coordinators want the world to see the collective strength of Cheyenne, according to Shelly Montgomery, a V-Day Cheyenne coordinator.

The website explained One Billion Rising is a revolution, an invitation to dance, a call to men and women to refuse to participate in the status quo until rape and rape culture ends, but, most importantly, it is a refusal to accept violence against women.
