Laramie County Community College men’s basketball made up for its previous away game losses by taking down undefeated in region play Lamar Community College.

On Jan. 19, the Golden Eagles put away the Runnin’ Lopes 82-72, bumping the men’s basketball team to 14-6 overall and 4-3 Region IX South. No. 3 Deshon Portley and No. 30 Julian Chiera led the team with 17 points each. No. 11 Patrick Stephens earned 15 points, and No. 42 Emory Bennett earned 10.

Earlier, the LCCC men’s basketball team lost its second consecutive road game on Jan. 16, playing in Sterling, Colo., against Northeastern Junior College by a score of 73-83. The Golden Eagles played from behind most of the game. While they got the score within seven points in the second half, Northeastern’s defense stepped up and held off the Eagles. Portley did manage to put up 21 points for LCCC and was complemented in his effort by No. 12 Ben Davis, who scored 17 points, and Stephens, who had eight rebounds to go along with his 16 points.

The basketball team will take on Western Nebraska Community College at home on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.
