Wingspan: Still flying high

For the 22nd consecutive year, Laramie County Community College's student newspaper, Wingspan, has taken first place in the American Scholastic Press Association national competition.

In addition, the Wingspan staff won "Outstanding Editorial" for "No Access, No Bueno" for an editorial critical of the unintended consequences of the college's travel abroad policy and civility statement and the students' lack of a forum to express their opinions. Wingspan also won "Outstanding Front Page" for its design of the October 2011 issue called "Brains on the Plains" about the ZombieFest in downtown Cheyenne.

Editors during the 2011 competition year for the spring semester were Hannah Wheeler and Will Hebert, both of Cheyenne. Editors for the fall semester were Hebert and Shawn Havel, of Cheyenne. Faculty advisers are Rosalind Schliske and J.L. O'Brien.
