Radiography club raises funds for 'Curie'
A fundraising group at Laramie County Community College is lending a helping hand to those in need and electronics in need of a home.
The LCCC radiography club fundraiser, also known as the Curie Fundraiser, is a big help, recycling consumer electronics such as cellular phones, ink cartridges, DVD movies or games, laptops and GPS devices, Kelly Wright, LCCC clinical coordinator and instructor of radiography, said.
Wright said all proceeds provide financial assistance to cancer patients who are currently undergoing or have undergone radiation therapy treatment. The fundraiser takes donations throughout the year.
Group also will sell refreshments during air show
Other ways the group raises funds are by working concessions at the on-campus Thunderbird's air show during Frontier Days, hosting garage sales and holding Halloween bake sales, Wright said.
She said the recycled electronics are donated to the website ecophones.com. The Curie slogan is "We give all we receive," and the Curie fund's purpose is immediately to step in and help radiography patients and their families without voluminous paperwork and red tape.
