Northeastern clips Golden Eagles' wings

The Laramie County Community College men’s basketball team was eliminated from the Region IX tournament by Northeastern Junior College March 4 by a score of 87–67.

The Golden Eagles made it to the second round of the tournament, but their playoff hopes were dashed as the team struggled on offense. Northeastern led the bulk of the game and ran away with the score in the final minutes of play.

The Golden Eagles fell flat as they could not convert on field goals or three-pointers. Their field goal percentage was 26.03 percent compared to Northeastern’s 42.86 percent. LCCC did not fare much better in three-pointers as Northeast made nine of 12, compared to the Golden Eagles’ four of 28.

Deshon Portley still led the team in points, putting up 19. Pat Stephens had 12 rebounds to lead the team in that category.

Fouls alone contributed 30 points to Northeastern’s win as they went 30-35 on free throws, compared to 25 for 33 on LCCC’s side.
