The price is right for LCCC employee giving

The employee giving campaign is back at Laramie County Community College.

The campaign runs March 24—28, but Wednesday, March 26, the LCCC Foundation Board will host an event called “The Price is Right,” at 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m., including commercials focusing on the LCCC Foundation and ways of giving.

The LCCC Board of Trustees meeting Feb. 19 discussed matching employees’ donations. Brenda Laird, Foundation scholarships and annual giving director, asked the board to step up and match an employee who’s giving. “Twelve [Foundation] board members have stepped up and pledged to match employees for $10 a month,” she said.

Since 2004, employees of LCCC and the state of Wyoming have teamed up to raise more than $2 million toward cultural events, operating funds and unconditional funds. And since the employee giving campaign started in 2002, employees have established 77 new scholarship programs.

The Foundation Board is not asking the elected Board of Trustee members to match the employees’ donations dollar for dollar. Laird provided an example of an employee who gives $100 a month to a specific fund or scholarship and a board member who adds $10 to that employee’s gift. The giving employee then receives a notecard, stating the board member’s name who has given to that pledge; each contribution toward an employee’s pledge is tax deductible.

Laird concluded, “At LCCC, we truly are the leaders in employee giving.” When explaining her response in regards to other colleges in the state who’ve asked for advice on how to get employees to give, just “what is the magic?” Laird exclaimed, “Really, the magic is just believing in what we do here at LCCC!”
