Golden Eagles pick up another win

The Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles’ men’s basketball team took the win from the Trinidad State Junior College Trojans on Feb. 11 in the LCCC gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles started the game slowly but finished the half strong, going into halftime with a seven-point lead. This lead proved to be important because the Trojans outscored the Golden Eagles 42–39 in the second half.

LCCC had the two top scoring players of the night. Golden Eagle forward Deon Edwin led all players in scoring with 30 points accompanied by nine rebounds. Deshon Portley, LCCC guard, was close behind with 26 points and five rebounds.

Joe Smith and Richard McCalop were the Trojans’ top scorers. Each scored 23 points and had two steals and seven rebounds respectively.

With this victory, the Golden Eagles are now 16–10 overall and have a 7–6 record in the south subregion of Region IX.

The Golden Eagles will play their last home game against Otero Junior College, Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m. in the LCCC Gymnasium.

The game will be televised by Wingspan-TV over Charter Cable Channel 11 and will be streamed by Wingspan Online.
