Theater instructor receives directing award for fall play

Laramie County Community College Theatre and Communication instructor Jason Pasqua recently received an Achievement in Directing award from The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for LCCC’s Playhouse production of Richard Dresser’s “Rounding Third.”

Voice, speech, dialects and acting professor Lou Anne Wright of the University of Wyoming, a former mentor to Pasqua, attended the play last fall and nominated Nick Wood and Daniel Johnson who starred in “Rounding Third,” as well as Pasqua for meritorious achievement in directing.

“In all honesty, it is a recognition for everybody,” said Pasqua, who holds a bachelor of fine arts in performance from UW and an MFA in acting from the University of Idaho.

“The director’s job is to set up the conditions through which things happen but if you’ve done the job correctly, there are no fingerprints,” he said. “That’s why it’s for everybody.”

The KCACFT, an extension of the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, has grown into a network of more than 600 academic institutions across the country. The KCACFT honors excellence in overall production and individual recognition for artists through awards and scholarships in playwriting, acting, criticism, directing and design.
