Graduation speaker has impressive resume

'His experiences as a bull rider, as well as his later experiences as a skydiver, helped him gain a greater appreciation of the concept of risk assessment.'

Whether it be saddling up for an 8-second ride, plunging to his potential death from thousands of feet in the air, or motivating rooms of people, he never backs down.

Every year for graduation, Laramie County Community College selects a graduation speaker who will best honor the graduating class.

“We work closely with the Student Government Association to get an idea of what the particular graduating class might be interested in for a speaker, which is where we got a list of qualities this year’s students hoped for,” said Judy Hay, vice president for Student Services. “They asked not to have a political figure, but to have someone who has an inspirational story, is entertaining, and motivating.”

This year, the position has been appointed to Tony Seidling.

Seidling is an executive of FCI Constructors, the construction company building the new Flex-Tech and the Student Services buildings. This company also took part in the construction of the dining hall and the new dorm building on campus.

Seidling is an LCCC alumnus from the 1980s. While at LCCC, he was a part of the rodeo team where he participated as a bull rider. He became a skydiving instructor later in life.

Seilding's tie to LCCC

During a meeting with Lisa Murphy, associate vice president of Institutional Advancement, about the construction, Seidling revealed his connections with LCCC and how his time as a bull rider led his way into motivational speaking.

This new knowledge of him being a part of LCCC’s history and his experience as a motivational speaker helped build him up as a candidate for the speaker position.

“His experiences as a bull rider, as well as his later experiences as a skydiver, helped him gain a greater appreciation of the concept of risk assessment,” said Ty Stockton, director of Public Relations.

Stockton said he believes Seidling will connect with students because of his past experiences as a student and his new role on a construction team building the school. He also believes his experiences as a bull rider and skydiver will help make him interesting to the graduating class.

”We chose him because of his ties to LCCC, as well as his speaking abilities. He has served as a motivational speaker, and he is dynamic, educational and entertaining,” Stockton said.
