Fall Sports Preview

Rodeo

Departing athletes:

  • Trey Yates, junior, tie-down roper and team roper, has competed at the College National Finals Rodeo.
  • Dustin Dailey, junior, tie-down roper, team roper and steer wrestler, will be graduating this spring.

Returning athletes:

  • Syerra “CY” Christensen, junior, team roper and breakaway roper, was the Central Rocky Mountain Region breakaway champion in the spring of 2015.
  • Kalane Anders, sophomore, tie-down roper, team roper and steer wrestler, was the Central Rocky Mountain Region men’s Rookie of the Year in the spring of 2015.

New signings:

  • Bailey Brown, a breakaway roping champion from North Platte, Nebraska.
  • Meagan Turek, a goat tyer from St. Paul, Nebraska.

Coaches call:

“The freshmen got their feet wet this year and got some things figured out,” Eppert said. “We’re definitely on the right track on horsemanship and roping. They have built up their confidence to the point where they know they can compete at this level.”

 

Equestrian

Taylor Wolken

Departing athletes:

  • Eleanor Pontoriero, sophomore from Cheyenne, Wyoming, will be competing on the University of Wyoming equestrian team next year.

Returning athletes:

  • Taylor Wolken, sophomore, has qualified for the 2016 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championships May 5-8.
  • Lexie Anderson, freshman from Lewistown, Montana.

New signings:

  • As of April 22 there are no official signings..

Coaches call:

Coach Lanae McDonald has high hopes for the 2016-17 season. “I hope the riders will be able to compete as well as they did this year,” McDonald said. “To have one rider qualify for Nationals is a big accomplishment but I hope to have more qualify next year.”
