Maafa Rememberence Day rescheduled

The fourth annual Africa Maafa Remembrance Day, originally scheduled for April 18, has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 16, at 9:05 a.m. at Laramie County Community College.

Featuring Amanda Sarah, an Afro-Columbian guitarist and balladeer, and Nii Okai Aryeetey, a Ghanaian percussionist, the program will be presented by Sankofa African Heritage Awareness. It will focus on the historical Maafa, which is the scattering of African peoples throughout the diaspora.

There will also be discussions on the echoes of slavery in present day America. Admission to the event in the Center for Conference and Institute is free and includes breakfast and lunch. The event ends at 12:35 p.m.
