Equestrian team finishes second, prepares for upcoming season

Laramie County Community College’s equestrian team has wrapped up the season topped only by one other team in the region. The team finished second in the region after the Hunt seat regionals, which were held at MM ranch in Fountain, Colo.

Victoria Schneider was the only LCCC rider qualified for this event. She qualified in novice equitation competition.

Sabrina Johnson placed sixth in her class and competed at the intercollegiate horse show association (IHSA) western semifinals in Laurinburg, N.C. Johnson qualified for the novice horsemanship finals class held on March 26. Only the top four competitors from each class qualify for IHSA nationals, which meant Johnson didn’t make the cut, but she is still ranked in the top 24 novice riders in the nation.

“I am very proud of her accomplishments this year and will be excited to have her compete on the LCCC team next year,” equestrian coach Lanae McDonald said.

McDonald said for the remainder of this year the team is finishing small projects, and she is finishing her recruiting for next year’s team.

“We had such a successful year and I expect the same for next year,” McDonald said.

The equestrian team’s season will start in the fall.
