LCCC fields to become community development

Preliminary approval came Oct. 11 for a new housing development, which could include student housing, in the rolling fields across the road from Laramie County Community College.

Lummis Livestock Co.’s plan would create a whole new development on the 2,300 acres of land on the other side of South College Drive. This plan is not limited to merely housing. Schools, a park, a golf course, a resort hotel and a couple of community centers are a few of the structural design plans for this new Sweetgrass Development. Elaborate design with all these resources would fulfill the goal Del Lummis, developer, mentioned of bringing a pride to the residents of the Southern Cheyenne community.

The project passed its first hurdle Oct. 11 by receiving initial support from the Laramie County Planning Commission.

The development is projected to take about 50 years to complete construction. According to Lummis, the development should be open to the public for the whole Cheyenne community to make use of features like the golf course and the parks. Plans to present development outlines to builders are already in process.

This also means a place for students to find an affordable place for students to live and have access to many community resources.
