'Voice' of LCCC passes away

A retired Laramie County Community College employee who has answered thousands of telephone calls to the community college for more than 20 years has died.

Former receptionist Rebecca K. Pent, who was often the first employee prospective students encountered, died Oct. 23 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

Brenda Laird, LCCC Foundation director of scholarships and annual giving, said she recalled passing by Sierra Hills, where Pent was living, during the summer and seeing her walking. “Even at the college, Becky walked on every lunch hour,” Laird said. “She literally was the voice of LCCC on the phone for many, many years.”

Pent was born Aug. 2, 1927, in Edinboro, Penn., and lived there until 1969. She was a member of Meadowbrooke Baptist Church. She worked at DePaul Hospital and was also a missionary in Peru from 1954 until 1969. Pent joined LCCC in 1975.

She is survived by a son, Daniel Pent, of Cheyenne; two daughters, Beth Pent, of Peshastin, Wash., and Deborah Serrano, of Sedgwick, Kan.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lula Knowlton; daughter, Rosina Pent; and two brothers, William Knowlton and David Knowlton.

Service was slated for 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel with interment to follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
