Men's basketball loses first game of the season

The Laramie County Community College men’s basketball team had a rough start to the season.

On Friday, Nov. 4, the LCCC Golden Eagles lost a close season opener to the Northern Colorado All-Stars, 111-108 in overtime.

Freshman point guard Da’Zhon Wyche scored a three-pointer with 2.3 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime. The NOCO All-Stars grabbed a late three-point lead in overtime. LCCC had a chance to tie when Wyche launched a three-pointer but it did not sink.

LCCC was led by Wyche with 28 points. He added five rebounds, five assists and two steals to his totals. Sophomore shooting guard Alfonzo Anderson contributed 21 points and sophomore strong forward Ola Ayodele scored 14 points.

The second loss happened on Saturday, Nov. 5, against the College of Southern Idaho. CSI jumped out to an early eight-point lead in the first quarter and LCCC was never able to recover losing 116-93.

Anderson led the Golden Eagles with 22 points while sophomore center Dominik Heinzl added 18 points. Wyche, freshman shooting guard Elijah Oliver and sophomore power forward Harrison Meads were also in double figures with 17, 16 and 12 points, respectively.

LCCC shot 55.9 percent in the second half and finished the game shooting 51.6 percent overall. The Golden Eagles were 9-24 from the three-point line. CSI shot 63.6 percent from the field and were 17-27 from the three-point line for 63 percent.

The next men’s game will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the LCCC gymnasium against Central Wyoming College.
