Men's soccer team continues winning streak
The Golden Eagles men’s soccer team is currently on a six-game winning streak after beating Western Nebraska Community College 1-0 and Western Wyoming Community College 5-0.
The Golden Eagles set the tone early when they faced WNCC on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Cheyenne East High School. Midfielder Rafael Munoz scored an unassisted goal in the 8th minute. Neither team scored throughout the remainder of this match. Goalie Andrew Hays had five saves on the day and kept WNCC scoreless throughout the entire match.
The Golden Eagles hit the road as they took on Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday, Sept. 24.
The Golden Eagles dominated WWCC and showed no mercy. Forward Francisco Garcia scored the first goal for the Golden Eagles in the 19th minute, the assist was credited to Munoz. Midfielder Adrian Cordova scored right before the half in the 45th minute, the assist was credited to midfielder Jordan Garcia. Munoz scored an unassisted goal in the 56th minute. Midfielder Caleb Rondon scored in the 64th minute, the assist was credited to Garcia. Defensive midfielder Dana Smith scored an unassisted goal in the 75th minute. Hays had five saves in this match and kept WWCC scoreless. Munoz leads the Golden Eagles in assists with six and is 21st in the nation in assists.
The Golden Eagles have an upcoming three-game home stand against Northeastern Junior College, Trinidad State Junior College, and Otero Junior College. The Golden Eagles play Northeastern at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Cheyenne South High School. They take on Trinidad at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 at the LCCC Athletic Fields. Then they will face Otero at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Athletic Fields.
