Men's soccer is off to a rough start

The Golden Eagles’ men’s soccer team saw its efforts unrewarded on a trip to New York this past Aug. 31–Sept 2. Laramie County Community College dropped the first game to Monroe College in New Rochelle, N.Y., with a 5-3 score and faced a barrage of shots in the first half, resulting in three goals for Monroe.

The Eagles’ offense got started with a goal from Peterson Neri, only to concede another goal several minutes later. LCCC’s offense again went to work, scoring two more goals only two minutes apart from Fernando Perez and Dino Soto. However, a goal in the last minute saw Monroe pull too far ahead, and they won the game.

The second game of the weekend saw the Golden Eagles travel to Rochester, N.Y. They played Monroe Community College and were shut out with a 5-0 score. Only three minutes into the game, LCCC saw its goalkeeper Daniel Ainsworth ejected with a red card for fouling one of the Monroe attackers.

Following the ejection, the Golden Eagles were unable to gain any momentum. They posted only four shots on goal.

The weekend resulted in LCCC’s third loss, bringing its record to 1-3-0. LCCC will head to Salt Lake City on Sept. 8 for a game against Westminster University JV. They will be on the road for the rest of the month of September. The first home game will be on Oct. 3 against Western Nebraska Community College.
