Rescheduled event promotes African heritage awareness

The Fourth International Africa MAAFA Remembrance Day, originally scheduled for April 18, has been rescheduled for 9:05 a.m.-12:35 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, with a free breakfast preceding the event at 8:30 a.m., in the Center for Conferences and Institute’s Union Pacific Centennial Room at Laramie County Community College.

Featuring Amanda Sarah, an Afro-Columbian guitarist and balladeer, and Nii Okai Aryeetey, a Ghanaian percussionist, the program will be presented by Sankofa African Heritage Awareness. It will focus on the historical MAAFA, which is the scattering of African peoples throughout the Diaspora.

There will also be discussions on the echoes of slavery in present day America. Admission is free and lunch will be provided.
