Volleyball second in region

The Laramie County Community College volleyball team improved to 12-5, positioning the team near the top of its conference headed into bulk of the school’s Region IX play.

The team’s Region IX North record is second only to Eastern Wyoming College (12-2; 7-1 Region IX). The Golden Eagles play the EWC Lancers at 7 p.m., Sept. 27 in Torrington. LCCC played Casper College Sept. 24, but results were not available at press time.

Preston Lienemann leads a balanced attack for LCCC with 159 kills on the season. Carlee Morrison has made 132 kills this season, and Madi Taylor adds 130 kills. Kyra Brandy leads the team with 390 assists— making her the 24th-best setter in the nation—and 29 service aces.

Eastern boasts the 12th-best hitter in the nation in Carmen Carvajal, who has made 184 kills so far this season.

In recent action, the Golden Eagles beat Colorado Northwestern Community College on Monday, Sept. 19 in the first game of a double-header. The Golden Eagles won all three sets, with the sets ending in 25-18, 25-15 and 25-18.

In the second game, LCCC defeated Northeastern Junior College in four sets, 25-17, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-23.

The team split four games at the Wyo-Braska Invitational in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, over the previous weekend.

On Friday, Sept. 16, the Golden Eagles beat Williston State College, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-22. Kyra Brandt led the Golden Eagles in assists with 22 and added 6 aces, while Tori Passarelli had a team-high 20 digs.

In the second game Friday, the Golden Eagles fell to Seward County Community College in five sets, losing the final set 15-10. Preston Lienemann tallied 20 digs, 11 kills and 3 blocks, while Brandt had a team-high of 30 assists.

On Sept. 17 LCCC lost its first game against No. 8-ranked Salt Lake City Community College in four sets. Brandt had 34 assists and 12 digs, and Passarelli netted a team-high 23 digs.

LCCC rebounded in the second game of Sept. 17, beating Pratt Community College 25-13, 25-14 and 25-13. Brandt got 22 assist, and Lienemann made 12 kills. Passarelli and Carlee Morrison picked up 14 digs and 10 digs respectively.
