Women's soccer team continues success

The Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team defeated the No. 7 team in the nation and tied with the No. 4 team on a big road trip Sept. 3-4.

The Golden Eagles, now 2-1-1 on the season, played Iowa Western Community College on Saturday, Sept. 3 in Rochester, New York. Iowa Western Community College was ranked No. 7 in the nation coming into this match. The match was scoreless until the 73rd minute of play, when midfielder Nikita Woods scored on an assist from forward Jemma House. Iowa Western Community College had four shots on goal, but goalie Jess Urquhart was able to make saves on each.

The Golden Eagles then went on to play No. 4 Monroe Community College on Sunday, Sept. 4, also in Rochester. Monroe scored the first goal of the game in the 44th minute, right before halftime. The Golden Eagles scored the game-tying goal in the 83rd minute. Midfielder Abby Morillon scored the goal and the assist was credited to midfielder Shauni Griffiths. This match went into double overtime, but neither team scored, leaving the match a tie.

The Golden Eagles’ next match is on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Northeastern Junior College.
