The Laramie County Community College Student Government Association gathered Tuesday, Sept. 3, to kick off another year of representing the students of the college.

The major points of interest were their preparations for Club Rush on Sept. 18, assembling their calendar of events for the semester and organizing elections for their vacant positions. They said they were happy with their progress on the almost-completed student lounge and will set up desk hours soon in order to assist students.

Their second meeting on Sept. 10 addressed setting up a booth with a raffle for joining the Facebook page from Sept. 23-27.
This campaign was discussed further on Sept. 17, with a presentation from Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement Lisa Murphy and Director of Alumni Affairs and Event Planning Lisa Trimble. They both explained how Laramie County residents would be asked to vote Nov. 5 to raise property taxes in order to fund the construction of two buildings on campus: a new student services center and a flexible industrial technology building. They also began discussing the organization of student-run canvassing.

Upcoming events for SGA include “Ask A Senator Day” on Oct. 3, which is also the first day of student government elections, to be held Oct. 3-11. On Oct. 24, SGA also plans to host a cultural variety show. A canned food drive will be set up from Oct. 28 through Nov. 8, as well as set up two Christmas trees to hang donations of winter accessories such as mittens, hats and scarves from Dec. 9–13.
