Speech team places in two meets

Students on Laramie County Community College’s speech and debate team have placed in two competitions in the last month.
On Oct. 25–26, the speech and debate team competed in the 2013 James ‘Al’ Johnson Memorial Speech and Debate Tournament hosted in Colorado Springs by Colorado College.

LCCC student Louis Uribe made it into the semifinal round of impromptu speaking and was among the top 12 speakers at the tournament. Sixteen colleges were represented at the tournament, and 66 students competed in the event.

On Nov. 8-9 the team traveled to Powell, Wyo., to compete in the 44th annual Trapper Rendezvous Forensic Tournament. Three of the four LCCC students who competed made it to the finals.

LCCC student Tia Fitzgerald placed sixth in informative speaking; Ashley Smith placed third in persuasive speaking, and Courtney Wood placed fifth in poetry interpretation.

The speech and debate team will compete on Dec. 7–8 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
